About Veronica Torres
I was born and raised in Arizona but I love to travel all over the world. I received my engineering degree from Arizona State University. While I was pursuing this degree, I volunteered to promote STEM as a career choice to middle and high school students. From this experience, I fell in love with the idea of teaching STEM at the middle and high school level. After I finished my engineering degree, I went back to school at Grand Canyon University to pursue my master’s degree in secondary education with an emphasis in mathematics. When I’m not at work, I can be found crafting, hiking, or curled up with a good book.

Why did you choose to become a teacher?
Teaching has always been something I’ve been passionate about but not something I wanted to do right after college which is why I choose to become an engineer. It was when I volunteered while pursuing this degree that I spent time in STEM classrooms. I fell in love with the idea of teaching STEM at the middle and high school levels and decided that was my career path. I want students to realize that everyone is capable of pursuing a degree in a STEM field even if they feel that they are not good at math and science because STEM is so much more than just math and science!
