About Savannah Douglas
Foothills Academy has always held a special place in my heart as I attended middle school and high school here! I graduated in 2013 and could not be more excited to have the opportunity to teach at my alma mater. I received my B.A. in Psychology from the University of Arizona and a Master’s in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University. I have spent the last three years working in a project based and arts integration school and am excited to apply these concepts in a new environment.
I have a wonderful family made complete by our two young sons, Owen and Milo! We love to go up North on the weekends, explore new restaurants (our favorite is La Santisima downtown), play outside, and watch movies. We also love reading books; our new favorite is “Wonder” by A.J. Palacio.
Master’s Secondary Education, GCU, 2017
B.A. Psychology, University of Arizona, 2015
The best thing about teaching: My favorite part of teaching is the students! I love helping them understand a complex topic and seeing them take ownership for their learning.
Some of my favorite things:
- Color: Blue
- Food: Coffee
- Book: To Kill a Mockingbird and Elsewhere
- Subject: English
- Hobby: Photography
- Sports Team: Broncos
If I wasn’t a teacher, I would be: a flight attendant or book editor.
Why did you choose to become a teacher?
In college I worked as an AVID tutor under a teacher who’d been in the profession for over 30 years. She put learning in the hands of her students. Working under her made me realize education looks many different ways and I would like to be a part of it.
