About Claudia Moreira
I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 1987 I earned a BA in Architecture and started a career as an architect. In 1991, I moved to the United States, shortly after our arrival, I started volunteering at my sons’ school. That is when I fell in love with teaching. I obtained a post-baccalaureate degree in teaching mathematics at Kennesaw State College in Atlanta, GA. In 2013 I earned a Mater of Arts in Mathematics Education degree from Western Governors University.
I started working at Foothills Academy in 2000. I love being at Foothills! During time off I enjoy time with my family, reading, hiking, and traveling.

The best thing about teaching: The constant novelty, no day is ever the same. That moment when a student finally gets it. You’d been hitting a brick wall with a concept but suddenly that look on the students’ face when they finally understand. Also, getting to see students ‘make it’ after they leave our school is a sensational feeling. Knowing that you played a small part in someone achieving or even surpassing their dreams is the ultimate in job satisfaction.
Some of my favorite things:
- Color: Purple
- Food: Chocolate, and yes it is food
- Book: I cannot pick ONE book.
- Subject: Math
- Hobby: Traveling
- Sports Team: Soccer/ Brazilian National Soccer Team
If I wasn’t a teacher, I would be: lost
Why did you choose to become a teacher?
Because I always liked to study, learn and share my knowledge. Also, to help girls to believe in their ability to understand science and mathematics.
2013-2014 Teacher of the Year
