About Allison Echanove

I have been surrounded by art all my life with many influences that fueled my love of art; my father and mother, both very artistic, excellent art instructors throughout my academic life and my children, whom are very talented artists. I have been teaching art for almost 20 years. I am passionate about teaching students not only to love art, but also to have a desire to investigate, explore and understand it. My mission, as an art teacher, is to get my students excited about thinking, asking questions and making art. Once I have their interest and they feel comfortable taking ownership in their work, their creative juices flow freely. My hope is to teach passion, acceptance, compassion and awareness in my students using art as their vehicle so they may better understand their own goals and success.

Education
M.A. Education, University of Florida
B.A. Fine Arts, University of Idaho

Work Experience
2014 – Present: Foothills Academy, Fine Arts HS Teacher
1997 – 2014: Hamlin Robinson School (Seattle, WA), Art Specialist
1993-1996: Freelance Graphic Artist

The best thing about teaching: I have an opportunity to give students a venue to embrace their artistic talents, to find a love of the arts and truly value their work they produce.

Some of my favorite things:

  • Color: All of them!
  • Food: All vegetables except Brussels sprouts & eggplant
  • Book: Talisman by Stephen King
  • Subject: Art of course
  • Hobby: Anything artistic
  • Sports Team: Seattle Seahawks

If I wasn’t a teacher, I would be: Creating and promoting my own art.

Why did you choose to become a teacher?
Personally, the most important part of teaching art for me is to make students love art as much as I do.
